Retrospective comedy revues of previously performed material can be challenging. Removed from the original context,sketches often lose much of their impact as topical references grow vague. Today’s John Edwards is yesterday’s WayneHays. Remember Wayne Hays?* No? That’s the point. So a degree of skepticism about the Brave New Workshop’s latest production, a collection of satiric hits from recent seasons,would certainly be understandable. Thankfully such concerns prove thoroughly unwarranted. Sarah Palin’s Minnesota; or Hindsight is 2011 avoids any staleness by focusing on topics that – unlike the titular narrator – show no signs of aging.

It is clear from "Sarah Palin's Minnesota," the comedy revue that opened over the weekend in Minneapolis,that the Brave New Workshop is an equal-opportunity offender. The humor in the show is tart and pungent. But the character of Sarah Palin --"half-term governor of Alaska" -- does not come off as being anchored in malice or animus. (And President Obama comes in for a some comic inflation, then deflation, as well.)

As a congressman's recent indiscretion-driven resignation reminds us, sex and politics have long been bedfellows. They're also the twin engines that propel Brave New Workshop's latest comedy revue,"Sarah Palin's Minnesota or Hindsight is 2011." In compiling a greatest hits of skits from its past few years, the troupe decided that most of its best material had something to do with politics or a lotto do with sex acts and organs.

When you produce several all-new comedy shows every year, there's nothing wrong with occasionally taking a breather. Brave New Workshop's Sarah Palin's Minnesota, or Hindsight is 2011, blends several favorites from the past decade with everyone's favorite part-time Alaskan politician as our host.Overall, it's a pretty good time. It should be. After all, these are sketches that have survived the tests of time.
