The BNW SU has classes for kids, adults, seniors, and everyone in between. We have classes for people that just want to have fun, and classes for people that are serious about making people laugh.


You'll see many of our students on different stages around the Twin Cities, using their improv skills to entertain you in a bunch of different ways. You'll also see a lot of our students in the workplace. They're usually the ones that are always smiling.

In many respects, improvisation is a metaphor for life. At the Brave New Workshop, we use good humor, mutual respect, trust, support, acceptance, self-esteem and creativity to create a successful show. Turns out those are often the same skills we use to create experiences that make our lives more fulfilling. So it’s only natural that we use them to form the basis for good corporate citizenship.

The BNW SU has been around in some form since the early days of the theater, but it wasn't until John Sweeney and Jenni Lillledahl bought the BNW in 1997 that the BNW SU truly found its footing as a place to learn long-form improvisation. Now with over 200 students each week and classes happening almost every night of the week, the BNW SU is the premier improv school in Minnesota.
