Michael McCarthy presents:
The Extreme Late Night Talk Show Workshop
When: December 6 from 12:00-3:00p
Where: BNW Student Union, 727 Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis
Cost: $65 per student
MICHAEL McCARTHY, whose staff writing credits include SNL, Sesame Street, Drew Carey, many Comedy Central projects, and most recently Mike And Molly (not to mention working on The Second City mainstage for a couple of years), is coming to Minneapolis and the Brave New Workshop, in order to conduct his EXTREME TALK SHOW workshop, which is a condensed version of the eight-week course he developed at The iO West Theater in Hollywood, where he distills into three hours all the elements that go into a four-page Talk Show Portfolio suitable for submission to literary agents, TV producers, and network executives. The workshop participant learns how to write jokes based on the news; expand said jokes into character and commentary monologues; create and craft a set of pitches for desk piece ideas, remote ideas and various recurring segment ideas—for a specific talk show, of the participants’ choosing; and finally to critique, assess and rewrite a rough version of his or her portfolio into a near-perfect final draft.
