It’s time for our monthly “trailmix,” a collection of interesting pieces of inspiration, thought leadership and innovative new ideas, and this month we’re focused on the act of declaring. “Declaring” is one of the Big Five behaviors that can root us in a Mindset of Discovery, and lead to a pattern of innovation. At its core, Declaring is the choice to say something, to be vulnerable and brave enough to make a statement, share and opinion or socialize an idea.

Get Your Day Started Right: A Guide to Help You Declare Your Daily Intention
We know how hectic a morning can be: hit “Snooze” on the alarm, rush to get out of the house, maybe you have kids that need coaxing into shoes and school clothes… Starting your day can sometimes feel like a sprint to begin the marathon that is your day.
This article from Zen Thinking argues that by taking five minutes to declare your daily intention, days can feel more meaningful, focused and productive. Want to try declaring your intention tomorrow morning? Use their handy guide to ask yourself some direct questions that can help you give direction to your day, improve your well being, and lead to a more fulfilled day and life!
Let us know how it goes in the comments below, or if there is a mantra or intention that has worked especially well for you.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_single_image image=”19016″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_single_image image=”19015″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]
Telling Your Story: One Woman’s Quest to Reveal the “Extra” in the “Ordinary”
“It’s so interesting to me to tell the story about three girls at different stages developmentally — not really put into the conversation where’s the dad, because that’s not really the story to me — the story is this family, this is what this family is.” - Pamela Adlon on her new show on F/X, “Better Things“.
Listen to Adler’s recent interview on NPR’s Fresh Air, where she talks about declaring her intention to do the show after years of self-doubt, and her hope of sharing a realistic motherhood story to help decrease the judgement surrounding parenting today.
Sharing your personal narrative is a big act of declaring - and can help people understand your perspective. What is something you can share with people this week that will help them know you better?[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]
The Passion Planner: Declare Your Goals
You can declare your goals to the world when you’re ready, but just writing down your goals and tracking your progress is a big first step.
This month we are loving The Passion Planner, a planner that allows you to track everything: short term goals, long term goals, grocery lists, to-do lists, NOT to-do lists, doodle space, and so much more. We also love the back story of this project, which started with the creator declaring and making their own plan with the prototype of this final product, and then funding it via Kickstarter!
What do you use to track your goals? Which planner/app/system works for you? Share in the comments below![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”19013″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_single_image image=”19011″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]
The Power of Vulnerability
To declare is to be vulnerable, because it means making a stand - sharing an opinion, sharing your feelings, sharing something about yourself.
Thought leader Brene Brown gives an inspiring Ted Talk that has been seen over 29 million times, and we are hoping to raise that number a bit more. “The Power of Vulnerability,” her talk from Houston in 2010, has sparked a movement, several best selling books, and declarations all over the world. Check it out and hopefully it can inspire you to be more vulnerable today, and to realize that being vulnerable can leave you open to joy, to love, and to more power in your life.
We hope this trailmix can give you inspiration to declare more in your own life and continue on your innovation journey! Try to declare three times in the next week, and please, make sure you laugh today!
