ABOUT THE BNW
The BNW has been performing original satirical sketch comedy and improvisation since 1958, longer than any other theatre in the U.S. Founded by the legendary Dudley Riggs, we have staged more than 275 original productions and exposed more than 3 million brave souls to the theatre’s unapologetic and unwavering brand of comedy and improvisation. After operating out of our storefront space in Uptown Minneapolis since 1965, we recently bought a new multi-level building in the downtown Minneapolis theatre district and are extremely excited about the growth potential of our new home at “824 Hennepin Avenue.” The BNW has a unique business model; the company operates as a self-funding arts organization and is leading the industry in sustainability and green theatre efforts.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Director of Theatre Marketing, Communications & Audience Development is one of the most critical leadership roles at the BNW. This person is responsible for all marketing, promotions, media relations, branding and audience development for BNW theatre productions. The best candidate will ensure full audiences for BNW shows, gain exceptional exposure for our theatre and its work throughout the country, and will increase the local and national brand reputation of this 54-year-old institution. The position will help to maintain the overall company brand and will assist in marketing for other BNW business lines when appropriate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Manage and execute strategic sales, marketing and show promotions to ensure sustainable audience development for all productions
• Direct the creation of show marketing and promotions campaigns (design, writing, concept, social media, vendor/partnership relationships)
• Execute consistent media relations related to theatre productions, student union, special features and unique performances or events
• Create cohesive communications and brand messaging working in partnership with VP of Marketing BNW CO
• Create and manage web and social media strategy and implementation
• Organize and manage occasional special events / showcases
• Cultivate and maintain excellent networking relationships with several local and national organizations, and serve as ambassador to downtown Minneapolis community
QUALIFICATIONS
• 5 – 10 years minimum relatable experience
• College degree required
• Great communicator, both written and verbal. Outgoing, driven and passionate. Good time and project management skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently. Good collaborator and ability to work with varying levels of professionals.
• Desire to work in a dynamic, creative, hard-working, “yes-and” environment, with a personal drive for achievement and world-class results.
• Interest in and appreciation for a bold theatre with a rich history and unique business model.
• Excellent computer, database, and list management skills essential. Candidate will need to be proficient with internal CRM, database and will own responsibility for maintaining audience development/marketing related data.
OTHER DETAILS
Full time position with benefits. Position open immediately. Primary work location – downtown Minneapolis at 824 Hennepin, with some work located at our Uptown/Student Union building (2605 Hennepin).
