Brave New Workshop and Dale Carnegie MN are joining forces once again to offer a two-part seminar for women seeking to grow as leaders and those who want to support the development of women leaders in their organizations.
Based on research on the most effective and efficient ways to grow leaders today, as well as combined 80+ years of experience in helping human beings become better leaders, we will introduce four catalysts for growth as well as four corresponding behaviors to set those catalysts in motion. Each session will focus on two catalysts and behaviors. You will leave each seminar with the foundation for action and a practice plan to help you (or the women you support) unleash the authentic, intentional leader your organization needs.
The four catalysts & behaviors we will dive in are:
1. Helpful Culture. A culture that encourages growth and provides care and attention during stretch experiences is key to the growth of new leaders. We will examine how we can create a helpful culture for ourselves and for those we lead.
Activating Behavior: Reframing
We sometimes forget that culture is dynamic and we have a say in it. Each of us can actively co-create the culture, if not of the entire organization, then that your next team meeting, conference call, or interaction. To create a helpful culture a key behavior we need to master is the ability to take information and reframe it in a useful way, which propels you and your team forward, solves problems and builds confidence.
2. Mentors. Whether formal or informal mentors play a key role in growing leaders, because they present an achievable picture of success and can offer invaluable insight, outside perspective, and encouragement as we develop. We will help you create a clear set of criteria to aid your search for an awesome mentor.
Activating Behavior: Declaring
To find a great mentor, one has to be clear about why a mentorship relationship would be valuable and what kind of mentor would be most appropriate. Just like any business relationship open communication is essential, and we will work on your ability to declare your point of view clearly and compellingly.
3. Confidence. In a fast changing world it is easy to lose confidence if you don’t have the right mindset. Leadership is about jumping into the unknown, taking responsibility and influencing others through modeling key behaviors, including confidence and the ability to set your fears aside. We will explore how to do that as well as remind you of the rock star that you already are.
Activating Behavior: Deferring Judgment
We are often our own worst critics. Deferring judgment is a wonderful behavior that can help us put a pause between information and reaction to ensure we are being intentional, mindful and centered when we process information, make decisions and form opinions. Perfectionism, guilt, over-analysis, scripting, are all confidence-killers, which can be counteracted by mastering the ability to defer judgment.
4. Resource Networks. No man is an island has never been more true than today. Your internal and external networks are crucial sources for ideas, information, support, expertise and other resources. Being intentional in how you build and support them is a key ingredient in how you grow as a leader. We will use our collective wisdom to share already existing networks as well as tips to grow your own.
Activating Behavior: Listening
Networking is about give and take, and one way to eliminate the nervousness which can come with expanding your network and reaching out is to put on your service hat, listen for what people are looking for and then offer ways you can help achieve their goals. Shifting the focus from you to them, will help you learn a lot as well as create a basis for a future trusting relationship.
