Rybak. “Their move adds to the growing excitement on Hennepin and will bring 30,000 more theatergoers downtown to appreciate the wide variety of arts and entertainment available there.” “Turning Hennepin Stages into the new home of the Brave New Workshop adds to the energy in the Hennepin Avenue Theatre District,” said Lisa Goodman, Chair, City of Minneapolis Community Development Committee. “The avenue is seeing more pedestrian traffic as fans make their way to Target Field; go to productions at the Orpheum, State and Pantages Theatres; and the Burnet Gallery at the Chambers Hotel is celebrating its fifth anniversary.” The acquisition of the Hennepin Avenue theater represents a major expansion for the Brave New Workshop. The company will continue to operate the Student Union school of improvisation from its long-standing home at 2605 Hennepin and use the new downtown location for their trademark comedy revues and fast-growing business services division, Creative Outreach. “We could not be more excited to add 824 Hennepin to the Brave New Workshop brand,” said John Sweeney, co-owner of the Brave New Workshop. “Because of 52 years of support from this community we have become a world class theater and now we will have a world class location to engage our audiences! We have been on Hennepin since 1958, here’s to fifty more years of laughter on the Ave.!,” he added. A request for proposals was issued by the City of Minneapolis in July 2010, and the sale of the property to Into the Mystic Inc. (dba the Brave New Workshop) for $725,000 was approved by the City Council on February 25. The property has been most recently programmed by Hennepin Theatre Trust, was previously known as Hey City Theater and before that, Hirschfield’s Paint and Wallcoverings. The property is located near the Trust’s three historic theaters—the State, Orpheum, and Pantages—and within a few blocks of Target Center (NBA Arena) and Target Field (MLB). The Brave New Workshop will christen the stage with a new show and grand opening this fall. Until then, Girls Only: The Secret Comedy of Women, presented by Hennepin Theater Trust, will continue to be onstage at the theater through June 26. The Brave New Workshop’s current production of Sarah Palin’s Minnesota; or Hindsight is 2011 will continue to run at the 2605 Hennepin space through June 24. # # # Sweeney Fri, 29 Apr 2011 18:35:00 GMT f1397696-738c-4295-afcd-943feb885714:49 http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/What-The-/ctl/ArticleView/mid/428/articleId/48/Four-Types-of-Innovation-from-Blogging-Innovation.aspx#Comments 0 http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/RssComments.aspx?TabID=74&ModuleID=428&ArticleID=48 http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=48&PortalID=0&TabID=74 Four Types of Innovation from Blogging Innovation http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/What-The-/ctl/ArticleView/mid/428/articleId/48/Four-Types-of-Innovation-from-Blogging-Innovation.aspx The article linked below appeared on Blogging Innovation April 16. It was like talking to a legend who also just happened to be alive, sitting across from me and a lot like my own wonderful mother. She was a rare combination of wisdom, compassion and hilarity! And though I always knew how funny she was, I came to understand how important she has been to the industry of comedy, especially as a true trailblazer for woman in the business. I would put her in the same breath as Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett and the rest! I understand the development of the Internet as we know it is not crystal clear (in fact, didn't Al Gore take credit once?) but I do believe it was not conceived as a form of communication in any proposed history. Rather, the intent was to "create a way to share resources by interconnecting networks to improve processing power." (Ian Peters History of the Internet by way of explanation.) I still fancy this original intent which brings me to the two companies below. One is identified as an open innovation provider and the other is self-described as employing crowdsourcing to deliver a service and/or product. The terms crowdsourcing and open innovation are used so interchangably these days I won't attempt to articulate a difference. So, semantics aside, both companies seem to do an excellent job of actually bringing the ideas and talents of participating individuals to market as viable, valuable services and products for themselves and their clients. Both use a managed process for submitting and sharing ideas. Both rely on the services and knowledge of others to deliver the end result. And both monetize the value of an idea. But what truly makes them successful at this point? Is it that they supply a limitless pool of individual ideas and knowledge - or is it that they are able to successfully manage, package, buy and sell those ideas? 1) InnoCentive - If you know anything about Preserving Cell Viability at Positive Temperatures, become a Solver now. Other challenges abound from Seekers big and small. 2) Victor & Spoils - Set up as an ad agency with the distinct difference of relying on an unlimited number of creatives to execute the work. Recent clients include Harley Davidson & Gap. dawn Wed, 23 Feb 2011 16:10:00 GMT f1397696-738c-4295-afcd-943feb885714:44 http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/What-The-/ctl/ArticleView/mid/428/articleId/43/Repost-from-TalentZoocom-How-Improv-Improves-Advertising.aspx#Comments 0 http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/RssComments.aspx?TabID=74&ModuleID=428&ArticleID=43 http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=43&PortalID=0&TabID=74 Repost from TalentZoo.com "How Improv Improves Advertising" http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/What-The-/ctl/ArticleView/mid/428/articleId/43/Repost-from-TalentZoocom-How-Improv-Improves-Advertising.aspx Thought this was an interesting article, written by Elyse Simpson on TalentZoo.com, about improvisation sparking creativity. Excerpt: "We all know that improv is designed to push people out of their comfort zones and make them think on their feet. Businesses are using improv as a way to develop leadership skills and strengthen communication in the workplace. But in a creative environment, improv does more than teach people to react and adapt. It becomes a dynamic process that optimizes creativity by allowing the free flow of communication to spark innovation." While giving a speech to more than 400 people at the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation leadership event, a 12-inch steel knife chose to embed itself in Sweeney’s arm. For years, our team has performed the unique art of knife throwing to innovatively recap Sweeney's keynote speaking and training points without a hitch. Not so much yesterday. Immediately after understanding his new relationship with said knife, Sweeney excused himself from the stage while Caleb McEwen finished the event. 17 minutes later, a pair of Canadian paramedics removed the knife from his arm and transported him to the hospital to receive several stitches. On the way, Sweeney was quoted as saying, "Perhaps there is a better way to illustrate innovation that doesn't include knives?" For all those who witnessed the knife drama, thank you for your concern! Sweeney is absolutely fine, "physically speaking" (we all know he has never been completely fine in the head). He is back at home, at work, and already keyed up to discover the next big idea. We would like to thank all of those health care providers who assisted him and sent him on his way. Although he was impressed with the effectiveness of the Canadian health care system, it would be impossible for us not to somehow take a shot at our neighbor's to the North. So, we've started a pool for guessing the cost of his Canadian health care experience. If you’d like to join in the pool, please comment with a US dollar amount and we’ll cut you in! Sketches range from an international incident to run-ins with the Minneapolis Moral Squad to a boiler operator's license and are full-on BNW-esque. We could not have been prouder and we urge every one on the planet to see it before October 24 when the show closes. dawn Mon, 04 Oct 2010 22:13:00 GMT f1397696-738c-4295-afcd-943feb885714:30 http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/What-The-/ctl/ArticleView/mid/428/articleId/28/This-is-an-award-winning-website.aspx#Comments 0 http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/RssComments.aspx?TabID=74&ModuleID=428&ArticleID=28 http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=28&PortalID=0&TabID=74 This is an award winning website http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/creativeoutreach/What-The-/ctl/ArticleView/mid/428/articleId/28/This-is-an-award-winning-website.aspx Guess what? The show is written by BNW's very own Caleb McEwen, John Sweeney, and alum Dane Stauffer and is currently titled, "Dudley: Rigged for Laughter." Yet in keeping true to BNW tradition the show needs an "or" title - and you're being asked to supply it. More info about the show will be coming soon.
