Bridger Steel Project News, Highlights & Helpful Tips

Project Highlight: Dutch Bros Coffee

[fa icon="calendar"] 07/21/2020 / by Kaylee Beattie

Founded in 1992 by brothers Dane and Travis Boersma, Dutch Bros Coffee has been expanding and making a name for itself throughout the western part of the US. With over 300 locations in seven different states, this coffee chain continues to expand and serves some killer coffee.

Project: Dutch Bros Coffee

Designer & Builder: Luna Designs & RJ Russo

Materials Used: 7.2 Structural Box Rib Panels — 24 gauge in Regal Blue

Sustainable Construction Meets Coffee

This Dutch Bros Coffee location in Gresham, Oregon had a unique goal: replace traditional construction with modular designs. RJ Russo, the contractor, and Luna Designs wanted to provide a more environmentally-friendly structure that would maximize the location’s lifespan, as well as hold up to both interior and exterior harsh environments. By eliminating materials like wood and products that would begin deteriorating, this modular design was built to withstand everything from coffee spills to thunderstorms.

This particular Dutch Bros Coffee location was one of the first factory-built building units in a line of many more to come. By combining the aesthetic and branding of Dutch Bros Coffee and the expansion goals of the company, RJ Russo, Luna Designs, and Dutch Bros Coffee were able to bring the vision to life.

From Arizona to Oregon

The modular building, named “The Falcon,” had quite a journey before it began serving coffee-loving customers in Oregon. Both the construction and design teams had to work closely with the city in order to meet building codes and other stipulations. The building itself was built on-site at RJ Russo in Phoenix, Arizona. It was then transported to Gresham by truck, where the 24,000 pound unit was finally placed onto the site by crane.

Metal Panels Meet Mochas, Smoothies, & More

If the question is sustainable material, the answer is metal panels. Bridger Steel provided this location (and many more to come) with one of the most sustainable materials on the market. Our metal panels are 100% recyclable, and create ideal surfaces for rainwater collection and solar panel mounting.

This Dutch Bros Coffee location chose to use Bridger Steel’s 7.2 Structural Box Rib metal panel, which combines the industrial aesthetic commercial buildings want with the heavy-duty structural integrity they need. They also choose 24 gauge for their panel, which is one of our thickest, strongest profiles available.

How Metal Fits With Franchises

Not only is metal a durable and sustainable choice, but it also is low maintenance. Franchise building owners will spend less time and money worrying about annual cleaning and inspections and more time on what really matters.

Bridger Steel’s metal panels can be completely customized to fit your company’s brand, which is critical for regional relatability and brand recognition. Ensuring you have design consistency is crucial in reaching as many of your customers as possible. Our team is able to easily reproduce the same panels and colors for multiple locations, or help you find the right panel profile for your next location based on the environment and other factors. We’ll work directly with you to select the metal panel best suited for your franchise’s needs. Read more about the benefits of utilizing metal panels in commercial franchise buildings here.
