Top 3 Problems With Metal Siding & Solutions

Metal siding is a great choice for both residential and commercial builds because of its durability, longevity, and high-performing characteristics. Although metal siding has tons of great qualities, nothing is perfect. Issues can occur and sometimes, they’re out of our control. We’re giving you the top three problems with metal siding, and the solutions to them.

#1 Difficult Replacement

If any major damage occurs to your metal siding, whether it’s from a major thunderstorm or even hail, replacing the panels yourself can be tricky. This is especially true if your panels use a concealed fastener system where the screws and other hardware are hidden beneath the panel’s exterior. Usually, if you need to replace a piece of your panel, you’ll likely have to replace the entire panel. This can be tricky, especially if you’ve never worked with metal before.

Solution: One of the easiest solutions to replacing a metal panel is hiring a qualified contractor. This can help ensure proper installation, which contributes to metal’s high-performing characteristics. However, sometimes the budget doesn’t allow for hiring someone and you have to do-it-yourself. Luckily, all of Bridger Steel’s metal panels come with detailed installation guides, and we also have all the tools you need available for purchase. You can talk to a Product Specialist as well to make sure you have all your questions answered before starting!

#2 Scratches, Scuffs, & Nicks

Even with its unmatchable durability, life happens around metal panels. Scratches, scuffs, and nicks can happen from objects accidentally hitting your siding to severe thunderstorms. The majority of Bridger Steel’s metal panel paint systems have been designed to be scratch-resistant and are tough enough to resist this kind of aesthetic damage. However, sometimes things happen and imperfections occur.

Solution: With Bridger Steel’s paint pens, you can quickly and easily touch up small aesthetic issues like scratches, scuff, and nicks. Designed with a felt tip, these paint pens go on accurately and smoothly. They fill, seal, and repair damage, rather than just acting as a coverup. They can have your panels looking good as new in just a few minutes.

#3 Paint Fading

After your metal siding is installed, it’s going to be exposed to direct sunlight throughout the day. Some areas of your siding will be in this direct sunlight longer than others. This can mean that some of your panels that are in shaded areas can retain their color, brightness, and hue compared to the areas the sun constantly hits.

Solution: While sometimes fading can be unavoidable, the paint systems used on Bridger Steel’s metal panels are unbelievably long-lasting and durable. We use two different types of paints on our metal panels — PVDF and SMP paint systems. They are both designed to withstand harsh environments, resist abrasions, and more. We work with our vendors to provide best-in-class paints so your metal roof looks amazing and lasts as long as possible. Each type of paint comes with its own warranty, too.

While metal siding may have a few problems, overall, it’s an incredibly tough siding solution. There are many advantages of metal siding, including its longevity, low maintenance, and stylish aesthetic. Metal siding’s high-performing and long-lasting characteristics make it great choice for almost any environment.
